Pope Francis died at the age of 89

The head of the Catholic Church Pope Francis, who has headed the Holy See since 2013, died on Monday morning, The Vatican press service reports On Facebook.

“With deep sadness, I have to announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. Today, at 7:35 am, the bishop of Rome Francis returned to the Father’s house,” Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Cameleng of the Holy Roman Church, said.

He noted that Francis has been dedicated to the service of the Lord and the Church. “With boundless gratitude for his example as the true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we give the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the Triune God,” Farrell added.

In 2013, the Pope elected the Argentine Cardinal of Horge Mario Bergolio, who chose the name Francis I.

Bergolio was born on December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires in the family of an Italian emigrant, a railway worker. Younger of five children. He received a diploma of chemical technician. Studied at the Willia-Black Seminary in Buenos Aires. He joined the Jesuit Order on March 11, 1958. He taught literature, philosophy and theology in three Catholic Colleges in Buenos Aires.

On December 13, 1969, Bergolio was listed on the priest. In the 1970s he held various positions in the Jesuit Order of Argentina.

Pope John Paul II brought Bergolio to Cardinal on the Consistory of February 21, 2001 in the Vatican.

In January 2025, Francis became ill with bronchitis, he was hospitalized on February 14 because the disease took a chronic form. After X -ray and laboratory tests, pontiff also found bilateral pneumonia. In March, his condition improved, he was discharged on the 23rd, and on April 6, he first appeared in public.

On Sunday of Easter, April 20, 2025, at noon, Pope Francis gave the blessing of “Urbi et Ortbi” from the loggia of St. Peter’s basilica, then arrived on the square to say hello to the pilgrims. The Easter message of the Urbi et Orbi from the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica in the presence of the Pope read the archbishop of Diego Raveelly by the Pope Master of Papal Divine. In the message, others were the wishes for the Risen Christ to bring the Easter gift of peace to Ukraine and to support efforts to achieve a just and long peace.
