Among the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the number of neurological diseases is increasing, among them 29% are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), informed Oksana Sukhorukova, head of the Department of Health Protection of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, reports the press service of the department.
According to her, the number of servicemen diagnosed with “stress-related neuralgic diseases” is gradually increasing. Currently, 29% of these diseases are PTSD, and this figure is expected to grow, Sukhorukova said during a speech at the section devoted to the psychological support of the Armed Forces at the 1st Annual International Congress on Military Medicine and Mental Health.
The head of the Department reported that the Ministry of Defense is actively working on the creation of a system of psychological support and assistance for servicemen, and also called for cooperation in the creation of this system.
“The Ministry of Defense can issue any document, create any policy. But we can implement this policy only together. I hope that each of you will participate in the creation of this system, in its strengthening and in taking care of the mental health of our servicemen”, she emphasized.
