Russia may unblock Twitter in response to Elon Musk’s loyalty

Date:

Last week it became known that Twitter removed the accounts of Russian officials from the “shadow ban”. The microblog service has restored their display in search results. In response to Elon Musk’s loyalty, Russian deputy Anton Gorelkin suggested to his colleagues to consider the possibility of unblocking the social network.

In detail

Gorelkin noted that Twitter on its own initiative removed restrictions from Russian government accounts. In this regard, in his opinion, it is advisable to remove the block from the microblogging service.

The deputy emphasized that government departments are in no hurry to resume posting on Twitter after restrictions are lifted. They do not see the sense in this, since Twitter in the Russian Federation is included in the register of prohibited web resources. Gorelkin expressed his belief that the time has come to review this measure. With the arrival of new management at Twitter, the policy of the social network has changed.

The parliamentarian added that after the change of ownership, Twitter can become a convenient platform for Russian state agencies to communicate with a foreign audience. The microblogging service was blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation on March 4 last year based on the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
