The evacuation of wounded soldiers from Vugledar in the Donetsk region was difficult, but the withdrawal from the city made it possible to minimize losses, said the press officer of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Arseniy Prylipka of the Black Zaporozhians.
“The wounded were evacuated, and the conditions were very difficult, because the enemy was pressing from the flanks, and this made logistics very difficult. First of all, it is to withdraw our servicemen from Vugledar, from the positions that were to the right and left of it. But the wounded were taken out. Of course, this is war. It cannot be without losses. But due to the fact that they moved to another border, occupied it, we minimized them as much as possible,” Prylipka said on the “Svoboda.Ranok” broadcast.
He noted that “holding the city further would be critical for our units, it would be difficult, and we would suffer more losses.”
When asked about how the decision to leave Vugledar was made, the press officer noted that everything happens according to orders, but also depending on the circumstances. He also commented on the criticism of timely orders and decisions about leaving the city.
“We are in the army, and in the army everything is done by order, by command. According to the hierarchy. From the higher command, they already know the situation, they are acting. And then the brigade commander makes a decision. And there it already depends on the situation on the battlefield, which unit goes out, which way,” he added.
He noted that “it is very easy to comment and blame the command for making certain decisions without being at the command post and not having the situation and the information that the brigade commander has.”
On October 2, the Khortytsia operational-strategic group of troops confirmed the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from Vugledar “in order to preserve personnel and combat equipment, to take up a position for further actions.”
