The UN said that consultations on the continuation of the “grain agreement” are still ongoing

Consultations on the continuation of the Black Sea “grain initiative” are still ongoing.

About this declared at the United Nations, reports yahoo.news.

Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, told reporters:

“The United Nations will do everything possible to preserve the integrity of the agreement and ensure its continuity. Consultations… with all parties and at various levels are ongoing“.

Laerke’s comments came after a one-day meeting in Geneva between senior Russian and UN officials. It will be recalled that it ended with Moscow announcing that it would not be against the continuation of the so-called Black Sea “grain initiative”.

However, Russia has agreed to extend the agreement, which expires on Saturday, March 18, for only half of the original 120-day period – 60 days.

Ukraine said it “contradicts” the original agreement, but did not reject the offer.

It’s a good deal… It’s very good for world food prices, lowering them, getting food to market in the right places“, the UN spokesman emphasized.

However, it remains unclear what further consultations will lead to. Laerke answered journalists’ questions that he could not say what to expect on March 18.
