The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania called on the allies to deploy resources to ensure victory for Ukraine

Date:

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielus Landsbergis criticized the idea of a “peace agreement” with the Russian Federation and emphasized that talks about the “restoration” of Ukraine are useless if the country remains vulnerable, waiting for the next attack of the aggressor.

“I hear that victory is ‘unreal’ and not even worth fighting for… In desperation, some hallucinate that a ‘peace deal’ will be achievable, effective, practical and sustainable, a magic wand that will make all the bad things go away. Some hope that the “peace agreement” will not only wash away our sins, but also make people forget that victory was always possible. Of course, we could have won at any time, even now, but instead we chose to lose. Worse, we imposed our choice on Ukraine”, – wrote he is on his page in the X social network.

In his text, Landsbergis also quoted Winston Churchill’s advice: “We must choose between war and dishonor. We choose dishonor, and we will have war.”

“We all agree that Chamberlain made a mistake when he trusted Hitler to steal only half of the country. Being kind, we could blame naivety. But today we cannot claim this protection. Repeating his mistake is a choice, it is either unreasonable or cynical,” the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania emphasized.

He also noted that world leaders often discuss Ukraine without inviting Ukraine, and the NB8 (Nordic-Baltic Eight) countries that border Russia, collectively the second largest provider of military aid to Ukraine, are also on the sidelines.

“One must have great pride to ignore the advice of countries with many years or even centuries of experience in resisting the Kremlin, i.e. hundreds of years of border crossings and broken “agreements”. We don’t like to be right about it, we’re just asking you to listen. The “peace accords” now being circulated will condemn millions of people to poverty, occupation, and a fate worse than death. Talk of “restoration” is empty if Ukraine remains vulnerable, waiting for the next attack. Investments will not flow, refugees will not return,” continued Landsbergis.

In his view, failure to defend its fundamental principles will demonstrate the weakness of the West to all observers, provoking aggression from those who want to take advantage of the apparent tendency to abandon non-NATO allies.

“Therefore, I respectfully ask my colleagues to reconsider the enormous advantages of preserving our reputation on a global scale by deploying our vastly superior resources to ensure the victory of our bravest and most capable ally, providing everything necessary and without tying our hands,” the foreign minister concluded. Lithuania.

As reported, on the eve of the presidential elections in the USA, which carry the threat of a repetition of the Munich conspiracy in Ukraine, Western politicians, scientists and the military called on the European capitals to resort to a real plan of action capable of helping Ukraine to win the war.

According to the open letter, which has already gathered more than 100 signatures, this may be the best way to secure Europe in the short term and buy time to build the capabilities needed to protect it in the future.
