The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to the UN and the ICRC to join the humanitarian response measures in the Kursk region

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to the United Nations (UN) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to join the humanitarian response in the areas of the Kursk region that are under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Ukraine, observing all norms and principles of international humanitarian law and human rights, exercising effective control over certain districts of the Kursk region, steadfastly adheres to international obligations in the field of international humanitarian law, in particular regarding the protection of the civilian population during hostilities… Ukraine confirms the unwavering observance of the assumed international obligations in the mentioned areas and is ready to provide comprehensive assistance to the activities of the UN and ICRC employees in the specified territories”, – reads in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairscommon on Monday.

The department reported that they had sent a corresponding note to the UN.

“Since the first days of the Kursk operation, the Defense Forces of Ukraine, as a civilized European army, have shown high professionalism and full compliance with the principles of international humanitarian law. Civilians in the territory of the Kursk region received and are receiving humanitarian aid, satisfaction of basic humanitarian needs, and the opportunity to leave the areas of hostilities. Taking into account the humanitarian situation and the need to properly ensure fundamental human rights in the territory of the Kursk region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to the United Nations to join the humanitarian response measures in the said territory and sent a corresponding note to the UN,” the statement said.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also sent a note to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as the guarantor of international humanitarian law with a request to join humanitarian response measures and monitor compliance with the principles of international humanitarian law in accordance with the 1949 Geneva Convention on the Protection of the Civilian Population in Time of War,” they said. in the Ukrainian Foreign Policy Department.
