During the shelling of the port infrastructure of Ukraine by the Russian Federation in October 2024, losses of $30-40 million were caused, reported First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi at the “Ukraine Media Center” on Friday.
“It is difficult to give a final assessment, because, unfortunately, cases are added. Insurance companies assess (damages – IF-U). Especially those that were the last due to intense shelling at the beginning of October. The assessment is still ongoing. But it is already obvious that it is about tens of millions of dollars. We preliminarily estimated the last shelling to be $30-40 million,” he said.
Vysotsky clarified that the total losses of the agricultural sector since the beginning of the war are estimated at $82 billion, and the losses of the grain business directly – at $500-600 million.
He expressed hope that the military risk insurance introduced by the government, as well as implemented by international private companies, will help in the current situation.
“Of course, all losses are documented and recorded. The amount that the aggressor has to compensate is already hundreds of billions of dollars. (…) We are sure that everything should be returned. All these losses, every million dollars or 10, 100, 200 thousand dollars are recorded in our country according to all the requirements of international law. We, as the state, will fight for compensation to the last hryvnia, in particular regarding the port infrastructure,” the First Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy summarized.
