The United States, along with Great Britain and Australia, introduced sanctions against hackers from the Evil Corp group

Date:

The US government on Tuesday imposed sanctions against seven individuals and two companies associated with the Evil Corp hacker group, according to a press release from the US Treasury.

According to a statement from the US agency, this group is based in Russia and “develops and distributes the Dridex malware,” which hackers used to gain access to the data of hundreds of banks and other financial institutions in more than 40 countries.

“These actions resulted in more than $100 million in losses and damages to American and international financial institutions and their clients,” the press release said.

It emphasizes that the US Treasury introduced these measures in coordination with the Foreign Ministry of Great Britain and the Foreign Ministry of Australia. London and Canberra, for their part, have also introduced a series of sanctions against this hacker group.

In addition, the American agency noted that as early as 2019, the first sanctions against the Evil Corp group and people and companies associated with it began to be introduced.
