Zelensky congratulated Hungary on the start of the EU Council presidency and thanked Belgium for its leadership during the presidency

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Hungary on the start of its presidency of the Council of the European Union and thanked Belgium for its leadership during its presidency of the EU.

“I congratulate Hungary on the start of its presidency in the EU. I wish success in promoting our common European values, goals and interests”, – Zelensky wrote on the X social network on Monday and assured that “on the way to the EU, Ukraine is ready to join these efforts and contribute to the strengthening of our Europe.”

On this very day, Zelensky thanked Alexander De Croo for the leadership of Belgium during its historic EU presidency.

“During this time, significant steps were taken to strengthen the whole of Europe. Negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, the 50-billion Ukraine Facility program, important actions regarding the use of frozen Russian assets, two packages of sanctions, as well as the Fund for Aid to Ukraine within the framework of the European Peace Fund. Zelensky noted in the social network Kh.

At the same time, the President of Ukraine expressed confidence that such “bold decisions are needed in these difficult times, and during the presidency of Belgium, the EU had enough will to accept them and strengthen the whole of Europe.”

As you know, the presidency of the Council of the EU changes every six months on a rotational basis. The Hungarian presidency will last in July-December 2024, after which it will pass to Poland.

From July 1, the presidency of the Council of the EU for the next six months passed from Belgium to Hungary, this is its second presidency in this body.
