Ukraine needs to increase imports of electricity – the head of the Ministry of Energy

Date:

Due to the fact that part of the Ukrainian thermal power plants and one nuclear power plant are temporarily controlled by Russia, the deficit in the energy system has increased. To solve this problem, it is necessary to increase the import of electricity.

About this stated Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko during the “Ukraine-EU” summit.

“For almost a year, Ukrainian energy workers have been living in a double reality – on the one hand, they have to respond to damage in time, and on the other hand, to balance the energy system. 5 of our thermal power plants out of 14 are occupied, as well as the largest nuclear power plant in Europe – the Zaporizhia NPP with a capacity of over 6,000 MW. About half of the objects of the energy system of Ukraine were attacked. As a result, we have a large deficit of electricity in the system.” – said the head of the Ministry of Energy.

The minister emphasized that, in particular, thanks to unique experience and a set of technical solutions, the energy system of Ukraine has survived. And the next important step should be to increase the import of electricity.

“Now we also need support from the import of electrical energy. Adopting a decision to increase the import of electricity to Ukraine to 2 GW will make it possible to halve the existing deficit.” – he explained.
