The traffic accident occurred in September 2022 on Povitroflotskyi Avenue in Kyiv. A 28-year-old driver of a “Mercedes” drove into a shuttle bus with passengers inside. As a result of the collision, the bus went off the roadway and hit a power pole. 32 victims with injuries of varying degrees of severity were taken to hospitals, including a 5-year-old girl who was a passenger in a car.
As Anatoliy Androsovych, head of the transport crime investigation department of the investigative department of the Kyiv police, said, as part of the criminal proceedings, a number of investigative actions and technical examinations were carried out:
“It was established that the driver of the Mercedes car was under the influence of narcotic intoxication. In addition, during urgent investigative actions, we seized a package of narcotics from the interior of his vehicle. The violator exceeded the speed limit and collided with the bus, which in turn drove off the road and collided with a power pole. Three passengers of the bus were seriously injured, 29 were of medium and light severity. Among the injured were also a minor passenger of the bus and a 5-year-old child who was in the passenger car.”
Kyiv police investigators informed the driver about the suspicion.
Currently, the pre-trial investigation has been completed and the law enforcement officers sent the materials of the criminal proceedings together with the indictment, with the approval of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, to the court for consideration of the merits of the case. A figure may face deprivation of liberty for a term of three to eight years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of five to eight years.
