Ukraine and Turkey will strengthen cooperation to diversify energy supply sources

Date:

Today, as part of the working visit of the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Ukraine, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko met with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Fatih Donmez.

The parties discussed issues of strengthening energy security in the region, diversification of energy supply, development of renewable energy.

“The Republic of Turkey is a strategic partner of Ukraine in the field of energy. Especially important is cooperation on diversification of sources and routes of natural gas supply in the context of strengthening energy security in the region. In particular, the issue of gas supply through the Trans-Balkan Corridor requires special attention. Ukraine is also interested in strengthening the partnership with Turkey in the field of natural gas production, in particular, on the Black Sea shelf, as well as the Turkish side’s use of the potential of Ukrainian underground gas storages,” Herman Galushchenko emphasized.

The Turkish side confirmed its interest in the use of Ukrainian PSG, at the same time noting that it supports the use of reverse gas through the Trans-Balkan route and plans to develop a partnership with Ukraine in the future in the production of hydrocarbons on the shelf.

The parties also noted the significant potential of Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in the development of renewable energy: the synchronization of Ukraine with ENTSO-E will open up opportunities for new investments in RES, which is very important in view of the positive experience of Turkish companies in the renewable energy market of Ukraine.
