Nvidia will deprive users of Shield consoles GameStream function

Date:

The Nvidia company has decided to deprive the owners of TV set-top boxes of the Shield family of one of the unique functions.

Already in the middle of February the company will disable the GameStream feature. As a reminder, it allows you to stream games from your PC to the Shield, using the latter as a game console. Moreover, this can be done even outside the home Wi-Fi network. There is only one main condition: the PC must be equipped with a GeForce video card starting with GTX 650. In the case of laptops, it must be a solution no older than the GTX 700M line or some individual GTX 600M models.

Nvidia does not explain the reasons for closing GameStream, but it can be assumed that it is about saving hardware resources on the company’s servers. Instead of GameStream the company offers to use Steam Link or GeForce Now, but in the first case it is only about games on Steam, and in the second – either a paid service or a free version, but with a number of restrictions. In addition, the selection of GeForce Now games is limited.
