The Prime Minister of Israel explained why he does not want to transfer weapons to Ukraine

Date:

Israel is afraid to transfer its weapons to Ukraine. In Jerusalem, they believe that their weapons may fall into the hands of Iran. With reference to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Nataliya Yurchenko writes about this. RBC-Ukraine.

The head of the Israeli government said that he rejected the request of Washington and Kyiv to supply weapons to the Ukrainian army.

“We have fears that I think none of Ukraine’s Western allies have,” said the Israeli prime minister.

According to him, Israel fears that weapons may be captured in Ukraine and transferred to Iran. In particular, we are talking about the “Iron Dome” air defense system, which was developed by Israel together with the United States.

“If this system fell into Iran’s hands, millions of Israelis would be left defenseless and at risk,” Netanyahu said.

He also emphasized that Israel needs “freedom of action” in Syria, where its army (the IDF) often attacks Iranian targets near Russian troops.

Israel’s position on the war

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Israeli authorities have declared their alleged neutrality. Jerusalem did not provide weapons to Ukraine, but it also did not openly support the aggression of the Russian Federation. Also, Israel did not agree to finally act as a mediator.

However, Israel’s interaction with Russia has intensified recently. In particular, the Israeli government held two rounds of high-level political talks with the Russian Foreign Ministry and agreed on a diplomatic mission.

Ukraine’s ambassador to Israel openly criticized the Israeli government’s pro-Russian policy, after which he was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
