The SBI reported the suspicion of five law enforcement officers due to the explosions in the Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv

Date:

The State Bureau of Investigation reports on establishing the circumstances and causes of the incident in the Shevchenkiv Court of Kyiv, which occurred on July 5, 2023, when the suspect in the case of the explosion of a grenade in the building of the Verkhovna Rada in 2015, former fighter of the “Sich” battalion Ihor Humenyuk, threw an explosive device at law enforcement officers, and then blew himself up.

“Forensic military examination and examination of substances were carried out, which established the remains of substances identical to those that caused the explosion in the cell of the accused. As a result, the DBR employees reported the suspicion to five law enforcement officers. As a result of their official negligence, the suspect died, who managed to injure several policemen with explosive devices, “- it is explained in messagespublished on the DBR website.

Three employees of the SIZO are suspected of official negligence under Part 2 of Art. 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and two servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine – in violation of the statutory rules of the guard service under Part 3 of Art. 418 of the Criminal Code. Other persons who contributed to the commission of the crime are being identified.

It was established that the defendant had been preparing to escape from custody for a long time. Accomplices gave him explosives in small parts under the guise of medicine to the pretrial detention center. The man hand-made the so-called “martyr’s belt” and several improvised explosive devices. He planned to blow them up in the courthouse and escape, taking advantage of the panic.

“The law enforcement officers established that during the stay in the pretrial detention center and the transportation of the suspect to the court, the responsible officials of the “Kyiv remand detention center” and the National Guard did not conduct a personal search of him and did not check his belongings. Remains of two explosive substances, including hexane, were found in the cell where the man was held. They are identical to the ones that were used in the premises of the Shevchenkiv court,” the SBI said.

As reported, one person died and two were injured as a result of an incident in the Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv, where Ihor Humenyuk, a suspect in the 2015 case of a grenade explosion in the building of the Verkhovna Rada, threw an explosive device at law enforcement officers and then blew himself up. Two KORD soldiers were wounded.

That day, the Shevchenkiv court was supposed to extend Humenyuk’s detention. In August 2015, four National Guardsmen were killed as a result of a terrorist attack near VR, and another 65 servicemen received gunshot wounds and bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity. Humenyuk was held in a pre-trial detention center for almost 8 years, from the beginning of the invasion he asked to be released from custody in order to mobilize, but he was refused.
