The prize was awarded in the following nominations: “Novel”, “Small Prose”, “Poetry”, “Publicism” and “Literary work dedicated to the work of Oles Honchar”.
The laureates of the Oles Gonchar International German-Ukrainian Prize in 2023 have become known. The winners were determined in five nominations. This year they were only men. About this reported on the page of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine.
Traditionally, the prize was awarded in the following nominations: “Novel”, “Short prose” (series of short stories, short story), “Poetry”, “Publicism” and “Literary work dedicated to the work of Oles Honchar”. Both published and unpublished works of Ukrainian-language authors up to 30 years of age were accepted for the competition. According to the rules, they can live both in Ukraine and abroad.
“Despite military aggression, the jury, which includes famous writers, scientists and cultural figures Tetyana Kushtevska, Nataliya Bjorner, Valentina Gonchar, Lesya Gonchar, Oleksandr Balabko, headed by Dmytro Chistyak, carefully considered all the submitted manuscripts, among which there were many talented ones ( therefore, we hope for the participation of the authors in the following years) and made a unanimous decision to honor the most talented, in their opinion,” added the award’s organizing committee.
This year, the winners were:
- in the nomination “Great Prose” – a collection of stories “In the mirror confessional” by Taras Golota (Kyiv);
- in the nomination “Small Prose” – a collection of short stories by Bohdan Hasyuk “While the Sun Rises” (Ivano-Frankivsk);
- in the nomination “Poetry” – a collection of poems “Predmuvchannia” by Stanislav Novytskyi (Kropyvnytskyi);
- in the nomination “Publicistics” – a selection of essays “The album in which you are” by Lyubomir Lesonin (Lviv);
- in the nomination “Literary work dedicated to the work of Oles Honchar” – the intelligence “Some higher power keeps me…” by Zakhar Zinenko (Kozelshchyna, Poltava region).
The awards are planned to be presented on April 3 at the National Museum of Literature of Ukraine at a literary and artistic evening for the 105th anniversary of the birth of Oles Honchar.

Talented young writers have been honored with the Oles Honchar International German-Ukrainian Prize for the 26th year in a row. It was founded in 1996 by German patrons Tetiana Kushteveska and Dieter Karrenberg together with the National Union of Writers of Ukraine.
