Kislytsia: The UN will be represented at the Peace Summit despite Russia’s opposition

Date:

The UN will be represented at the Peace Summit to be held in Switzerland in June, despite intense pressure from the Russian Federation on officials and member states of the Organization.

This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Ambassador Serhiy Kyslytsia, during a discussion under the auspices of the Ukrainian Prism and the Center for European Policy (EPC) regarding the implementation of President Zelenskyi’s Peace Formula, reports Ukrinform.

“The Russian Federation immediately responded (to Ukraine’s efforts to promote the Peace Formula – ed.) with great pressure, trying to keep member states and the UN General Secretariat from joining the Peace Formula. This pressure has peaked recently as we approach the summit in Switzerland. Russia is making great efforts to undermine this measure. It is also about open and covert pressure on the Secretary General and other UN officials to prevent their presence at the summit in Switzerland,” Kyslytsia noted.

He recalled that the Peace Formula was first presented at the security segment of the UN General Assembly on September 22, 2022, in the same month a meeting of the UN Security Council was held with the participation of the President of Ukraine, who explained the logic and content of the peace plan. This 10-point document was also presented at the G20 summit in Indonesia in November 2022. And on February 23, 2023, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the need to achieve a comprehensive, just and durable peace in Ukraine in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter.

“All the ideas contained in the Peace Formula are already written down in the UN documents, in the resolution adopted by the decision of 141 states. It is important that we have this resolution, which is the basis for involving the UN in the peace process according to the Ukrainian formula… This Wednesday (May 29 – ed.). The President of Ukraine had a conversation with the UN Secretary General, who confirmed that the UN will be present at the summit in Switzerland,” Kyslytsia said.
