Klitschko called the biggest challenge during his work as the mayor of Kyiv

Date:

For Mayor Vitaly Klitschko, the beginning of a large-scale war has become the biggest challenge for all 10 years that he has been the head of Kyiv. In difficult wartime conditions, it was possible to maintain the infrastructure of the capital.

The mayor of Kyiv shared his memories of this period in his Telegram channel. In addition, the city government enlisted the help of partners to support Territorial Defense.

“Remembering the past years of my tenure as mayor, of course, the biggest challenge was the beginning of a large-scale war. The capital had to defend itself, ensure the life of the city, take care of its inhabitants. It was necessary to act quickly, to make difficult decisions. There was a threat of a siege of Kyiv. And we were preparing for possible street fights,” Klitschko wrote.

The mayor recalled that the first weeks of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine were the most difficult. Many residents of Kyiv left, but the city lived on – hospitals accepted patients, rescue and communal services worked around the clock.

“We informed which shops and pharmacies are open, where you can get help. The humanitarian headquarters of the city was promptly created, which accumulated stocks of everything necessary in case of a siege. We enlisted the help of our partners to support the Territorial Defense, which we began to build before a full-scale invasion began. Body armor, helmets, uniforms,” added Klitschko.
