India has become the second largest supplier of critical but banned technologies to Russia – mass media

India has become the second largest supplier of critical but prohibited technologies to Russia, informs Bloomberg.

India has become Russia’s second-largest supplier of limited critical technology, US and European officials said, citing the difficulty of efforts to end exports that fuel Putin’s war machine, according to a report published on the Bloomberg website.

According to sources, India’s exports of microchips, electronic components and machine tools exceeded $60 million in April and May, twice as much as in the previous months of this year, and rose to $95 million in July. Only China is ahead of India.

Some interlocutors note that Ukraine’s allies are most worried about the lack of reaction from Indian officials to requests for an explanation of this situation. According to recent data, almost 20% of sensitive technologies entering the Russian defense industry come through India.

US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo reportedly wrote a letter to senior officials of the Confederation of Indian Industry in July, warning of the sanctions risks faced by Indian companies and banks doing business with Russian military equipment.

“This situation demonstrates the difficulty the US and its allies face in trying to reduce Russia’s ability to wage war against Ukraine even two and a half years after the invasion began. The direct export of such technologies to the Russian Federation is prohibited, so Moscow receives them through third countries or networks of intermediaries, which sometimes include companies with Western capital,” the publication writes.

“While the allies are trying to limit supplies through Turkey and the UAE, which are the main transit points, new hubs are emerging, among which, according to sources, are India, Malaysia and Thailand,” the material emphasizes.
