Neuralink, founded by Ilon Musk, first implant its new Blindsight neurochipwhich is able to return vision even to a completely blind person, at the end of 2025. The exact terms are not disclosed.
By The words maskthe first version of the implant will restore vision “low resolution”, as in 8-bit ATARI graphics. However, over time, technology will reach the “superhuman level”.
It is assumed that neurochip will stimulate the visual cerebral cortex, which is responsible for the processing of visual information, bypassing damaged eyes and nerves. This makes it a potentially revolutionary solution for people with complete loss of vision, including those who have not seen from birth.
Blindsight became known about the development of visual neurochips a year ago, in March 2024. At the time, Musk said that Chip was successfully tested on the blind monkeys, none of them “died or received serious injuries from Neuralink”.
In September the US Ministry of Health assigned Blindsight status of the “revolutionary device” and allowed testing for people.
