On May 20, 2022, Mariupol was under complete occupation.

On May 20, 2022, Russian invaders took the last Ukrainian prisoner from the territory of the Azovstal plant, and the city was under complete occupation.

A year later, a series of events dedicated to the memory of the defense of the city of Mariupol will be held in Kyiv at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

Participants will remember how the world watched the fierce struggle of Ukrainian defenders for 86 days, from February 24 to May 20, how we saw online the destruction of blocks of the flourishing City of Mary.

“Mariupol in evacuation is doing everything to preserve its culture, traditions and history. We show the world what Ukrainian Mariupol used to be in order to preserve it in the future and create a new one,” says the mayor of the city, Vadym Boychenko.
