Inflation in Ukraine in June 2024 increased to 2.2%, in annual terms – to 4.8% – State Statistics Service

The growth of consumer prices in Ukraine in June 2024 increased to 2.2% from 0.6% in May, 0.2% in April, 0.5% in March, 0.3% in February and 0.4% in January , the State Statistics Service (State Statistics Service) reported on Wednesday.

The Statistics Office reminded that in June 2023 the price increase was 0.8%, so in annual terms, inflation according to the results of June of the current year increased to 4.8% from 3.3%% according to the results of May, 3.2% – according to the results of April and March for inflation of 4.3% based on the results of February and 4.7% based on the results of January.

It is noted that in June-2024 core inflation increased to 0.5% from 0.3% in May, by 0.7% in April, 1% in March and 0.4% in February-January. Taking into account the fact that in June-2023 the basic deflation was 0.1%, in annual terms, according to the results of last month, inflation increased to 5% from 4.4% in May and April, in March this indicator was 4.2%, in February – 4.5%, January – 4.6%.

According to the statistics office, on the consumer market in June 2024, the prices of food products and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0.5%. Eggs rose in price the most (by 15.5%). Prices for grain processing products, sugar, sunflower oil, fish and fish products, bread, pasta, soft drinks, rice, oil, and vegetables increased by 3.2-0.4%. At the same time, lard, milk, meat and meat products, fermented milk products, and fruits fell in price by 2.6-0.1%.

Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 1.1%, in particular, for tobacco products – by 1.7% and alcoholic beverages – by 0.5%.

The increase in prices (tariffs) for housing, water, electricity, gas and other types of fuel by 17.4% occurred mainly due to the increase in the cost of electricity by 63.6%.

Transport prices rose by 0.8% in June compared to May 2024, mainly due to a 10% increase in the price of rail passenger transport fares.

As reported, inflation in Ukraine fell to 5.1% in 2023 after a jump in 2022 to 26.6% from 10.0% in 2021.

In June of this year, the National Bank announced that it expects a moderate acceleration of inflation in the coming months and its departure from the range of 5% ± 1 pp. till the end of the year.
