Majors take movies not only from Russian cinemas, but also from OTT platforms – RosZMI

Date:

Due to the withdrawal of the majors from the market, the Russian mass media predict that online cinemas will lose part of their active audience in the Russian Federation.

While the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine develops sanctions regarding Russian online cinemas, and Derzhkino urges Disney, HBO Max, Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Hulu and others refuse Russian content, the majors stop licensing Russian VOD platforms. About this writes Russian publication “Kommersant”.

In particular, the premieres of the films “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “King’s Man: The Beginning” and “Alley of Horror” will not be shown in the online cinemas of the aggressor country. The latest film is nominated for an Oscar this spring as well will be available on Ukrainian services Megogo and Sweet.tv.

“Kinopoysk” (controlled by “Yandex”) and Wink (owned by “Rostelecom”) remain without rights. IVI and Okko, Amediateka refused to comment on this issue to Kommersant. Premieres will lose all Russian online cinemas.

Due to the withdrawal of the majors from the market, the Russian mass media predict that online cinemas will lose part of their active audience in the Russian Federation. In addition, if the majors want to take away the licenses for those tapes that are already in the libraries of Russian services, then the latter will have to buy films and series from Korea, China and Latin America. And also, as in the case of cinemas, to fill the vacuum with a Russian product. “Kinopoysk” is preparing to release the continuation of the Russian series “Trigger” and “The Last Hero: Messenger of Darkness”. Wink is preparing for the release of the documentary project “Zeros” and the TV series “Two”.

We will remind, after the Russian attack on Ukraine, Russia leave foreign media — in particular, those that supplied the Russian market with entertainment content. Sony Pictures will no longer show movies to Russians. Together with her, Disney, Paramount, Universal pictures and Warner Bros. are coming from Russia.

The latter stopped the release of the new “Batman” in Russian cinemas, and Disney decided not to provide Russia with new films at all. In order to close the hole in the movie distribution, the Russians released the Russian film “I want to marry” on the screens, and also returned to the distribution the films that have already passed – “Holop”, “Move Upward” and “Father”.
