The new SS 2022 collection of the Marta Wachholz brand was shown in Lviv accompanied by the INSO-Lviv symphony orchestra. The show, timed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, became part of the Lviv Orchestra Fashion cross-sectoral project, which Lviv Fashion Week is organizing for the second time with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund.
The concept of Marta Wachholz’s new collection involved the use and interpretation of visual images of Kosovar ceramics and visual elements from the field of aviation. The source of inspiration for its creation was the motifs and color scheme of Kosovo ornaments, as well as the activities of the outstanding aircraft designer and inventor of Ukrainian origin Igor Sikorsky, the owner of Sikorsky Aircraft, the developer of airplanes and helicopters that set world records in the 1920s-1950s.
The designer combined elements of Hutsul painted ceramics with elements of flight clothing – parachute belts, hats, pilot accessories, etc. Some dresses, the shape of which is a design allusion to parachutes, required 15-20 meters of fabric to make.
“It was wonderful. I am impressed by INSO-Lviv and the soloists. Everything in me always trembles when I listen to them, and when this music accompanies my show – it’s incredible! Emotions overflow. I am very happy and grateful to everyone, thanks to whom the show took place at such a high professional level and in an extraordinary atmosphere. It’s a great experience, I’m incredibly happy,” says Marta Waholtz.
The musical design of the show was created by the INSO-Lviv symphony orchestra and soloists: MANU (electronics), Ostap Kostyuk (Hutsul wind instruments, voice), Yarema Pavliv (violin), Ulyana Gorbachevska (voice), who supplemented the orchestra’s three-dimensional sound with modern electronic beats, folk Hutsul instruments and songs. The authors of the musical design concept were Ulyana Gorbachevska, a singer, actress, director, researcher of authentic ancient Ukrainian songs, and composer Maria Oliinyk.
A unique fabric design with the pattern of authentic Kosovar ceramic tiles was created for the collection. Kosovo ceramics are included in the Representative List of UNESCO, the use and interpretation of their visual images in the collection of the Lviv Orchestra Fashion project thereby draws attention to the issue of preserving cultural heritage.
