Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz is in favor of more intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, Die Zeit reports with reference to the chancellor’s interview with the ZDF channel.
“I think now is the moment when we also need to discuss how we can move from this war situation to peace faster than it seems right now,” – said Scholz.
The Federal Chancellor also commented on the possible participation of the Russian Federation in the next conference on the issue of establishing peace in Ukraine.
“There will definitely be another peace conference. And the (Ukrainian) president and I agree that it should also be a single whole with the participation of Russia,” the politician said.
As reported, the first Peace Summit was held on June 15 and 16, 2024 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, and representatives of the Russian Federation did not participate in it. As the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said on August 27, representatives of the Russian Federation will be present at the second Peace Summit, if they wish. He also noted that “we should be ready (for holding the Peace Summit – IF-U) by November.”
