On March 25, Ukraine celebrates the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). It is a key body that stands for the protection of national security and sovereignty of the state.
It was on March 25, 1992 that the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law on the Security Service of Ukraine, and its staff oaths allegiance to the people.
From creation to international recognition
From the first days of existence, the SBU has complex tasks: ensuring state security, protection of territorial integrity, combating corruption and organized crime. The service formed units of intelligence, counterintelligence, protection of national statehood, counteraction to terrorism, military counterintelligence and government communications. The special unit “A” was created separately, which specializes in anti -terrorist operations.
Over the years, the SBU has intensified international cooperation and has become the center of the anti -terrorist system of the state. It was added to the tasks of cybersecurity and information space.
SBU’s work on the background of war
With the onset of Russian aggression in 2014, the SBU concentrated forces on the fight against hybrid war, separatism and subversive activities of the invaders. The staff of the service actively participated in special operations in eastern Ukraine, exposing agent networks of the enemy and preventing diversions.
After February 24, 2022, the SBU, together with other forces of defense, began at the forefront for Ukraine’s independence. Its experts work at the hottest points, neutralize hostile sabotage and intelligence groups, document military crimes and reflect enemy cyber-attacks.
In a full -scale war, the Security Service of Ukraine has become one of the key security structures that repel Russian armed aggression. Not only does the SBU neutralize the enemy agent within the country, but also works directly on the front line, approaching the victory.
Responding to wartime challenges, the Security Service significantly modernized its activities – focused on counterintelligence, counteracting crimes against national statehood, prevention of terrorist attacks, investigation of military crimes of the Russian Federation, cyber defense, etc.
