The “Batkivshchyna” faction voted against the presidential bill No. 11469 on so-called multiple citizenship, which was considered in the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading, reported on the website of the police force.
As the leader of the faction, Yulia Tymoshenko, noted, the draft law is unconstitutional and it does not actually refer to giving the diaspora the right to obtain Ukrainian citizenship.
“This bill is not about multi-citizenship, remember that. And not about the diaspora, which is granted citizenship – there is no mention of the diaspora. This is a draft law on the liquidation of the Ukrainian nation and its replacement by the online people,” Tymoshenko said from the parliamentary rostrum.
The leader of “Batkivshchyna” considers it unacceptable that any citizen from 40 countries of the world, which will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers, “can declare that he will become a citizen of Ukraine, because he simply wants it” online.
She reminded that in no country in the world is citizenship granted online, and such an initiative has nothing to do with multi-citizenship, which exists in 130 countries of the world, because upon obtaining citizenship, a new citizen only has the right to keep the passport of another state where he was a citizen before.
“Each country sets ultimate requirements: from 5 to 10 years of residence, knowledge of the language, culture, history, loyalty to the flag, anthem, state, constitution of other countries, that is, a full-fledged citizen who has everything to live in another state” – she reminded.
Tymoshenko urged her colleagues not to support the draft law, and expert teams of the Verkhovna Rada analyzed it for unconstitutionality.
