The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine published a statement regarding the unfriendly actions of the Republic of Belarus, in which a significant number of troops and weapons were concentrated in the Gomel region in the immediate vicinity of the northern borders of Ukraine.
“According to the intelligence agencies of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, under the guise of exercises, are concentrating a significant number of personnel, in particular the Special Operations Forces, weapons and military equipment, including tanks, artillery, anti-aircraft missiles, air defense equipment and engineering equipment, in the Gomel region near the northern borders of Ukraine”, – the statement says Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on Sunday evening.
The statement emphasizes that “Conducting exercises in the border zone and in close proximity to the nuclear power plant, the Chornobyl NPP, poses a threat to the national security of Ukraine and world security in general.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on the officials of the Republic of Belarus not to make “tragic mistakes for their own country under the pressure of Moscow”, and the armed forces of Belarus “to stop unfriendly actions and withdraw troops from the state border of Ukraine to a distance that exceeds the range of fire systems available in the Republic of Belarus.”
The statement states that Ukraine has never committed and is not going to commit any unfriendly actions against the Belarusian people.
“We warn that in the event of a violation of the state border of Ukraine by Belarus, our state will take all necessary measures in order to implement the right to self-defense guaranteed by the UN Charter. At the same time, all troop concentrations, military facilities and supply routes on the territory of Belarus will be legal targets for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the statement summarizes.
