The situation is critical: a Ukrainian man who tried to commit self-immolation is being rescued in Krakow


Today, near the building of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Krakow, a Ukrainian attempted self-immolation.

The incident happened around 7:50 a.m. today, witnesses reported that the man shouted calls to return home and go defend Ukraine in the army.

“He addressed his words to the Ukrainian men who gathered in front of the consulate. Most likely, as a sign of protest, he doused himself with a combustible substance and set himself on fire.” it is said in a message on the Internet radio RMF24.

Piotr Szech, press officer of the Main Department of the Krakow City Police said that it was a 63-year-old Ukrainian, that the man first stood in line at the consulate, and then started shouting calls, later doused himself with a substance that caught fire and ran away.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko reported that the man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Now he is in critical condition. He is being given urgent medical care.

“The Consulate General is cooperating with Polish law enforcement officers, who have started an investigation to establish the cause and all the circumstances of the tragedy,” he said.

Consuls monitor the provision of medical care to a citizen, establish contact with his relatives.

The police are on the scene, the prosecutor’s office has been notified of the incident.
