The police detained a state bailiff in Odesa on suspicion of extortion and received $1,000 for closing enforcement proceedings.

The state executor of one of the departments of the state executive service in the city of Odesa of the Southern Interregional Department of the Ministry of Justice demanded and received unfair advantage from the town for exerting influence on the main state executor of the same department of the internal combustion engine.

For $1,000, he promised to help so that his colleague would not imposed an arrest on the property and bank accounts of the debtor within the framework of enforcement proceedings, which was under execution by her, and closed the proceedings in general.

Official detained investigators of the department of investigation of crimes in the field of economic and official activities of the investigative department of the National Security Service in Odesa region and operatives of the strategic investigations department in Odesa region of the National Police after receiving the funds.

Under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the investigators notified the accused of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 (abuse of influence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offender is liable to imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with confiscation of property.

Currently, the question of selecting a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved. He was placed in a temporary detention center until the court chose a preventive measure.

Earlier, the detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security together with the prosecutors of the General Prosecutor’s Office reported that exposed current and former officials of the Odesa customs office in abusing their official position, which enabled the company exporting sunflower crops to avoid paying taxes.
