The US has targeted Chinese banks: it is ready to introduce sanctions because of its support for Russia

Date:

the United States are ready to introduce sanctions against Chinese banks, companies and other financial institutions because Beijing supports the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine. Currently, they are looking at possible candidates for inclusion in the list. European countries and NATO can also join the USA and introduce restrictions.

Reuters writes about this, referring to the words of US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell. It is noted that the first financial institutions will be sanctioned and companies that systematically help the Russian Federation. It is through them that the US wants to influence China’s policy.

“I think that we are primarily focused on Chinese companies that systematically participate in the support of Russia. We are also looking closely at financial institutions,” Campbell said.

He added that European countries and NATO should send a collective signal of concern to China, thus demonstrating their general dissatisfaction with the situation. In addition, the United States, South Korea and Japan cooperate on strengthening economic security, including within the framework of projects aimed at reducing dependence on Beijing and Moscow for critical resources.

Tensions in US-China relations

Conversations between the US and China are observed not only over the policy towards Russia, but also over Taiwan, the invasion of which the Celestial Empire is preparing. According to the head of the US Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral John Aquilino, China is actively building up its military capabilities and will be ready to invade Taiwan by 2027.

Officially, the US supports the “one China” policy, which assumes that Taiwan is part of the People’s Republic of China. But US President Joe Biden claimed in May 2022 that Washington would defend Taiwan in the event of an attack by Beijing. Therefore, it does not stop transferring weapons to Taiwan, which is why recently China imposed sanctions on the US.

Sanction restrictions affected 12 American companies, in particular General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems, Boeing Defense, Space & Security and others are now prohibited from doing “import-export” business in China.
