The US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would like the Democrats to win the US elections in 2024, reports Reuters.
“I think that Zelensky is the greatest salesman in history. Every time he comes to the country, he leaves with 60 billion dollars. He wants them to win this election so badly, but I would have done it differently – I would have negotiated peace,” Trump said at a rally in western Pennsylvania.
In response, the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, released a statement criticizing Trump for not saying he wanted Ukraine to win the war.
“Vice President Harris understands that if America pulls out of Ukraine, Putin will sit in Kyiv watching over the rest of Europe and our NATO allies,” said Harris’ national security campaign spokeswoman Morgan Finkelstein.
Trump is said to have offered no details of his peace plan, except that he will call Putin and Zelensky again and urge them to reach a deal if he wins the Nov. 5 election.
