Two-thirds of the French are in favor of appointing a “technical government” of France

Date:

More than half of French citizens believe that the current political crisis at this stage requires the appointment of a “technical government”, according to a public opinion poll conducted by the Elabe research center commissioned by BFMTV.

In response to a question about changing the cabinet of ministers, 66% of respondents said they wanted to appoint a “technical government” made up of experts in the relevant fields.

According to BFMTV, the public opinion survey showed that the majority of respondents are satisfied with the resignation on Thursday of the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier following the results of the vote of no confidence the day before in the lower house of the French parliament – the National Assembly.

It was previously reported that French President Emmanuel Macron accepted Barnier’s resignation. According to a communiqué from the Elysée Palace, Macron instructed him “to ensure current affairs together with members of the government until the appointment of a new government.”

On Thursday, Macron held consultations to select a candidate for the new head of government.

BFMTV, citing its sources, reported that Macron will not name the new prime minister in his speech.

After the vote of no confidence in the National Assembly on Wednesday, a number of French media expressed the opinion that the presence of the head of government is expected at the events of the opening of the restored Notre Dame Cathedral after the fire on December 7-8, to which the leaders of a number of countries have been invited. Based on this, they concluded that a new prime minister could be appointed by the coming weekend.
