JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” (UZ) restored the volume of cargo transportation in containers to the pre-war level, increasing them in January-September by 47% – to 197,897 in twenty-foot equivalent (TEU), reported Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport Technology and Commercial Work of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” (UZ).
“Recovery of pre-war volumes is recorded. For 9 months of 2024, the volume of cargo transportation in containers compared to the same period in 2023 increased by 47% and amounted to 197,897 DFE,” Tkachev wrote on Facebook on Friday.
According to him, the indicator is the highest in the last seven years and exceeds the indicator of transportation volumes in the same period of the peak year of 2021 by 7%.
According to the given data, in 2021 the volume of transportation of loaded containers was 279,792 TEU, but already in 2022 the indicator decreased by 46%, and in 2023 it increased by 34%.
Almost 62% of all container transportation took place in the export connection, Tkachev clarified.
He also reported that the undisputed leader among cargo transported in containers by railway is grain cargo – about 44% of the total volume. In addition, ferrous metals accounted for 17% of the volume of transportation, cakes for 7%, oil for 6.6%, synthetic resins for 3.5%, and products of the starch and molasses industry for 3.5%.
As of October 1, 2024, UZ has already transported 533 intermodal trains, of which 82 are international trains.
