The presidents of Ukraine and Serbia during a meeting in Athens
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that he had an “open, honest and fruitful meeting” with his Serbian counterpart, Oleksandr Vucich.
“An open, honest, productive conversation with the President of Serbia Vučić. Good conversation. About respect for the UN Charter and the inviolability of borders. About the future of our peoples in a common European home. About the development of relations, which is our common interest,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.
The press service of the Ukrainian president specified that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the Ukraine-Balkans summit held in Athens (Greece).
“The parties noted that mutual support of territorial integrity and sovereignty is an important part of the partnership between Ukraine and Serbia. Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed his colleague about the situation on the battlefield and the actions of the Ukrainian army. The leaders discussed the most important issues of regional security, bilateral relations and prospects for their development… The President of Ukraine offered the Serbian side to support the Ukrainian peace formula and participate in the third summit of the international Crimea platform on August 23 of this year,” the message reads.
At the same time, our sources in diplomatic circles note that even half a year ago, such a meeting was unthinkable. However, the tactics and strategy of domestic diplomats in Serbia, in particular the Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Tolkach, worked. We hope for further fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
