A driver who drunkenly hit a schoolgirl to death will be tried in Kyiv region

The accused faces up to 10 years in prison.

Juvenile prosecutors of the Kyiv regional prosecutor’s office sent an indictment to the court against a 24-year-old resident of Kyiv region under two articles of the Criminal Code. For fatally hitting a 14-year-old child while under the influence of alcohol and drugs (Part 3 of Article 286-1), as well as leaving the girl without help (Part 1 of Article 135), he faces from five to 10 years imprisonment.

The investigation established that on the evening of October 31, 2022, in the village of Sulymivka, Boryspil district, the accused, while driving a Daewoo Lanos, hit a schoolgirl who was walking in the same direction on the side of the road. The child died in the ambulance during resuscitation. The driver fled the scene of the accident.

He drove the car away and left it in the Cherkasy region, and returned home himself. The next day he was detained by the police. An examination revealed the presence of alcohol and drugs in his blood. At the request of the prosecutors, the accused will wait for the court’s verdict in the pre-trial detention center.
