Newcastle Football Club have signed the Everton forward for £45m

Date:

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Everton forward Anthony Gordon in a deal that could be worth £45m.

The 21-year-old, who has been with Everton since the age of 11, was a target for Chelsea in the summer.

The upfront investment is expected to be £40m, rising to £45m with add-ons.

“Ever since I heard about the interest, I was always convinced that Newcastle was for me. People haven’t seen what I can do yet,” Gordon told NUFC TV.

“I think the fan base and the city really suit me as a person, the way the team is playing under the gaffer really suits me and it looks like the club is going in the right direction.

“I feel like this is a really big step. I think that under the gaffer and the way the club is developing, I can really succeed.”

A statement from Everton said Gordon had joined Eddie Howe’s third-placed Premier League side for an undisclosed fee after submitting an official transfer request.

Head coach Howe said: “I am delighted to sign Anthony – he is a top talent.

“I’m really excited to work with him, develop him and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Newcastle shirt.”

Part of the England Under-21 international’s fee will go to Frank Lampard’s successor as Everton manager, who is expected to be former Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

Gordon was at Everton’s Finch Farm training headquarters on Friday after a three-day absence, but the deal was completed well before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Everton reportedly demanded £60million from Chelsea for Gordon in the summer, but the Merseyside club decided to sell him for less.
