There is a request to create a branch of the National Military Cemetery in each region – Porhun

Date:

After the full launch of the National Memorial Military Cemetery (NVMK), it is planned to launch a branch of the NVMK in each region, said Acting Oleksandr Porhun, Minister of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine.

“After the full launch of the National Memorial Military Cemetery, we plan to launch NVMK branches in each region. I think when we understand that we will launch the first and second launch complexes to fully operate the National War Memorial Cemetery, then we can move on to the history of the formation of branches in each region. There is a request for this,” said Porhun in an exclusive interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

Regarding the construction of the NVMK in the Gatnensk community near Kyiv, the head of the department expects that the contracting organization for construction works will begin the full-fledged construction of the first phase at the beginning of August this year, and also called realistic terms for the first burials in mid-autumn.

“The total number is calculated for 100,000 by the traditional method of burials and 60,000 by the columbarium. It should be understood that the National Military Memorial Cemetery is not just a cemetery. This is a historical place of memory, a place of perpetuation of our heroes and a museum, so that not only the current generation, but also the next generation will know and remember the price of freedom and independence. This is the first such large-scale project in our country,” he concluded.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers in October 2022 approved the creation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery by the Ministry of Veterans, and in August 2023 approved the implementation of the NVMK project in the Gatne community near Kyiv by August 2025.

March 27, 2024 in at. Oleksandr Porhun, the Minister of Veterans’ Affairs, said that the first burials at the NVMK can begin as early as the end of summer – the beginning of fall of 2024, and the entire complex is planned to be fully built by 2027. He later announced that the first burials are expected in early or mid-autumn 2024.

On June 30, Porhun announced that the project documentation for the construction of the first stage of NVMK passed the state expert examination with positive conclusions, and on July 4, NVMK announced a tender to find a contractor for the construction of the first stage and the design of the second.
