The Critics’ Choice Awards have returned to their regular January slot after the 2022 ceremony was delayed by more than two months due to a surge in cases COVID-19 . And all eyes were on the red carpet as stars arrived at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
For an evening of understated fashion, many attendees opted for black gowns, but there were plenty of eye-catching silhouettes, from the asymmetrical ruffles of Quinta Brunson’s form-fitting Robert Woon gown to Angela Bassett’s striking Christian Siriano design.Lily James, nominated for her role in ” Pam and Tommy “, impressed with a transparent black dress from Oscar de la Renta with a large silk bow on the waist. There were pops of color, too, with One Piece star Michelle Yeoh wearing a pink and black strapless Carolina Herrera gown with dramatic sleeves, while Julia Garner arrived in a sheer red Ferragamo dress over a Skims bandeau bra.
Elsewhere, metallics and sequins became popular. White Lotus actor Aubrey Plaza wowed in a glittering Louis Vuitton dress with colorful degradé accents, while Queen of Women star Tuso Mbedu wore a gold, silver and bronze embellished gown, also by the French brand. Nominees Amanda Seyfried and Sheryl Lee Ralph of “Abbott Elementary” chose gold gowns by Dior and Jovana Louis, respectively. In a trend seen on recent red carpets, Elle Fanning and Janelle Monae were among several stars who wore dresses with cutouts.
The men of the evening rocked a variety of shades, from Andrew Garfield’s camel Zegna suit to Henry Golding’s striking taupe. Ke Hui Quan, Billy Eichner and Harry Shum Jr. were among the many attendees who arrived in shades of burgundy on a night when many male guests shunned the traditional black-tie dress code.
