On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the United States government’s Art in Embassies program, an art exhibition was held at the Kennedy Center (Washington). The project featured exhibits of Ukrainian artists. The exhibition became a part of the solemn art presentation “Art and Ideals”. The Ukrainian part of the program was organized in partnership by Aspen Institute (USA) and Aspen Institute Kyiv.
Among the presented works of art are two works by Maria Priymachenko – “Beast of War” and “Bird of Hope”. The exhibition also featured 25 works by modern Ukrainian artists, created already during the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine on the territory of Ukraine.
This is an adapted version of the exhibition that took place last year at the Aspen Campus of the Aspen Meadows Institute in Aspen, Colorado (USA) – “Beast of War. Bird of hope”.
— Art can convey emotions that cannot be described in words. Especially, during Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine. The task of this exhibition is to once again explain to American leaders the inhuman nature of the Russian war and to tell about the incredible will of Ukrainians to victory. I am convinced that our exhibition will contribute to increasing support for Ukraine, – stressed Nataliya Yaresko, head of the Aspen Supervisory Board of the Kyiv Institute.
The curator of the Ukrainian part of the exhibition was artist Alisa Lozhkina. Previously, she worked as a deputy director and curator of the Mystetskyi Arsenal museum and exhibition complex, and was also the editor-in-chief of Art Ukraine.
— It was a day of unprecedented solidarity, and I am very grateful for it to all my colleagues from Aspen Institute — Vice President Elliott Gerson, his team — Jonathan Price, Danielle Baussan, Sofia Wallace, as well as Aspen Institute Kyiv, without whose initiative and active work this project would not be able to take place – to the head of the Supervisory Board Natalia Yaresko, executive director Yulia Tychkivska, head of programs Alina Shklyaruk and others, – said Alisa Lozhkina.
The exhibition was held at the Kennedy Center (Washington) from January 31 to February 5. Also at this time, an excerpt from the ballet “Swan Lake” by the Ukrainian ballerina Svitlana Onipko was presented at the Kennedy Center.
