Foreign passports were returned to the “king of smuggling” Alperin

Date:

Foreign passports were returned to businessman Vadym Alperin, who is called the “king of smuggling”. This decision was taken by the High Anti-Corruption Court.

The passports were returned because Alperin lost his Ukrainian citizenship. He submitted all the documents, so he cannot use them.

Alperin cannot leave Ukraine

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office noted that the suspect’s Israeli passport was cancelled.

Alperin was ordered not to leave Ukraine until November 6 without the permission of the prosecutor or the NABU detective.

  • He must arrive at the first call;
  • to notify about a change of residence and work;
  • refrain from communicating with any persons regarding the circumstances surrounding the suspicion.

What is known about the Alperin case

  • Alperin is suspected of organizing a scheme to reduce the duty on the import of goods. The amount of losses for the state reached 63.8 million hryvnias. Customs officials were also allegedly involved in this.
  • The investigation found out that during the investigation of these facts, Alperin threatened law enforcement officers, resorted to bribery, and also received “pours” of information.
  • In November 2020 NABU and SAP completed the investigation.
  • NABU says that this is just one episode of a series of crimes at the customs. In general, we can talk about 500 million hryvnias in losses to the state on various schemes for customs clearance of goods.
