He earned a bonus worth more than a million hryvnias: the ex-rector of the university will be tried in Kyiv

Date:

From now on, the man faces from five to eight years behind bars.

Over the course of two years, from 2018 to 2020, the rector of the capital’s university illegally took over one million hryvnias of budget funds.

As the police established, the suspect gave instructions to his subordinates to charge him bonuses for no reason. This is how the rector appropriated 1.3 million hryvnias.

“The circumstances that became the subject of a pre-trial investigation were discovered during an audit by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and confirmed by specialists of the State Audit Service of Ukraine and the conclusions of forensic experts,” the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office writes.

The rector’s property was seized. An indictment has already been sent to the court on the facts of embezzlement of state funds in particularly large amounts under three parts of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Now the ex-rector faces imprisonment for a term of five to eight years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years.
