The great success of the Israeli runner Maru Teferi at the World Championships in Athletics in Budapest: he took second place in the marathon race. He ran 42 km 195 meters in 2 hours 9 minutes and 12 seconds. Almost at the finish line, he managed to overtake the Ethiopian runner Leol Gebreselassie by 7 seconds.
The 31-year-old Israeli track and field athlete was born in Ethiopia and repatriated to Israel in 1996.
The gold medalist was a marathon runner from Uganda, who reached the finish line 19 seconds earlier than the Israeli.
According to Teferi, he noticed that Gebreselassi began to lose strength in the last kilometer. “I decided to overtake him, and I succeeded,” the athlete said.
