Why pensions of civil servants can be much larger: the reason is in the formula for calculation

Date:

The pension system in Ukraine provides for two main types of pensions: for civil servants and for ordinary citizens. Pensions of civil servants are calculated as a percentage of the former salary. Previously, this percentage reached 90%, but was later reduced to 60%. Further reduction of this percentage is possible in the future.

Pensions of ordinary citizens are calculated taking into account not only salary, but also length of service. Age pensions for ordinary citizens are a certain percentage of wages, depending on seniority. For example, 30 years of experience gives the right to a 30% pension. To receive a 60% pension, you need to have 60 years of service and a high salary.

Changes in 2024:

Indexation of pension payments has already taken place this year, as a result of which the pensions of some categories of citizens have increased by 1,500 hryvnias.

As of April 1, 2024:

  • 26.84% of pensioners receive less than UAH 3,000;
  • 17.27% – from 3,001 to 4,000 hryvnias;
  • 18.61% – from 4,001 to 5,000 hryvnias;
  • 25.22% – from 5,001 to 10,000 hryvnias;
  • 12.06% – more than 10,000 hryvnias.
