Under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the senior state inspector of one of the customs posts of the Odesa Customs Office was notified of the suspicion of extortion and receiving of illegal benefits.
According to the investigation, the customs officer demanded a bribe from the citizen for the unimpeded importation of UAH 4 million into the territory of Ukraine through the international checkpoint for the “Mayaki-Udobne-Palanka” road connection. He estimated his “services” at 3% of the imported amount, which amounted to 3,000 euros.
The customs officer was detained after receiving the second tranche of illegal funds.
Currently, the detainee has been notified of the suspicion, a preventive measure has been taken in the form of detention and he has been removed from his post.
