Germany confirmed that it is ready to suspend Nord Stream 2 in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Germany seeks to minimize the risk of escalation in Europe and is ready to introduce sanctions against Russia in the event of an invasion of Ukraine — in particular, against the Russian gas pipeline “North Stream-2”.

According to the correspondent of Suspilny, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Berbock, stated this in a speech at the Munich Security Conference on February 17.

“The Russian threat remains. We want to minimize the risk of escalation in Europe. We want to talk about it every minute. We cannot test the security architecture. All those who want security do not threaten each other, they talk to each other,” she emphasized.

Burbok noted that Germany “sees the unity of NATO and its allies” in assessing Russian aggression: “At a time when Russia is acting against Ukraine, we are ready to implement collective sanctions. And the suspension of Nord Stream-2.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry emphasized that Berlin supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“This is one of the most dangerous times. when escalation and misinformation can escalate the situation. Ukrainians have the right to determine their own future. We live in a world where these rules work. We faced the tension of authoritarian states,” she added.

Berbok also called for the escalation near Ukraine’s borders to be called a “Russian crisis” and not a “Ukrainian one”, and appealed to Moscow to withdraw its troops.
